What options do you provide for assessment of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease?
BPS proudly offers aging adult evaluations to assess for troubling signs of memory loss, confusion, language difficulties, and fluctuations in alertness and attention, and determinations of dementia are provided where applicable. Our experienced clinical staff is also able to assess functional capacity to inform guardianship decisions and future care needs for your aging loved ones.
How long does testing take?
In general, most evaluations usually require 4 to 5 hours to complete. Some forms of testing, such as IQ/Adaptive Functioning evaluations, are brief and only require approximately one hour to complete. Individual capability is also a consideration, and some forms of evaluation may take longer depending upon personal needs and/or limitations.
Do I get a lunch break during my evaluation?
Clients /children are encouraged to eat snacks and drink water throughout their evaluation appointments to help maintain energy and alertness. Heavy lunches and prolonged breaks are discouraged due the tendency to become tired/sleepy and lose focus.
What is your cancellation policy?
BPS requires confirmation of evaluation appointments 48 hours in advance. Clients can expect to receive a text and/or email notice 72 hours prior to their evaluation appointment requesting confirmation of the appointment. Should you fail to confirm your appointment in the required timeline, your appointment will be cancelled.
Should I take my medication before my evaluation?
BPS will not provide specific recommendations about whether or not you should take your medication/s. Instead, we encourage all clients to consult with their medication prescriber to make medication decisions.
Is testing in person, or virtual?
BPS does not offer any virtual testing options. All testing is in-person.
Do you offer testing for ADHD?
Yes, we offer testing for ADHD. However, most insurance companies will not approve psychological testing to assess solely for a diagnosis of ADHD. Instead, assessment of ADHD is usually subsumed into other forms of evaluation, which requires other mental health, neurodevelopmental, or neurocognitive symptoms are present in order to approve funding for the evaluation.
What can I expect on the day of my evaluation appointment?
Testing begins with general discussion of practice and clinical policies, and the flow of your evaluation will also be discussed. In general, all forms of evaluation (psychological, neuropsychological, etc..) include a clinical interview where questions are asked and relevant behavioral and/or mental health concerns are discussed. Following the initial interview, testing will begin. The specific tests included in your evaluation will vary depending upon individual concerns and needs. Breaks are provided during testing as needed. Once all testing is completed, the evaluation appointment will be concluded. Results of testing are compiled into a comprehensive evaluation report that includes diagnoses (if applicable) and treatment recommendations. Once the report is completed (usually 7-10 business days), your clinician will contact you to discuss the relevant findings, and the evaluation report will be made available to you.
What is your billing policy?
Our office works with many health insurance companies for direct billing, but it’s important for families to understand their insurance coverage, particularly regarding mental health services. Before scheduling, make sure to check if your insurance offers a managed mental health benefit, any deductibles, co-payments, or pre-authorization requirements. If we are not contracted with your insurance, you’ll need to pay in full at the time of your appointment. For out-of-network benefits, you can request evaluation superbills for reimbursement. It’s crucial to remember that insurance billing doesn’t guarantee payment, and you may still be responsible for costs like deductibles, co-pays, or services not covered by your plan.

For psychological or neuropsychological testing, we will bill your insurance based on the time and resources involved in administering, scoring, and analyzing the tests, as required by healthcare guidelines. Each insurance plan has different coverage levels, so we recommend confirming your out-of-pocket costs with your insurer beforehand. We will bill your insurance and give them 60 days to pay, but if the payment is delayed, we encourage you to work with your insurer to resolve the claim. After 90 days, unpaid accounts may be sent to collections. To prevent collection actions, we request a credit card on file for balance payments, and we will notify you if any balance remains unpaid.
